Troubleshooting Custom Domains

If your custom domain is not working as expected, this guide covers the most common issues and how to resolve them.

Most custom domain problems are related to DNS configuration, domain verification, or SSL provisioning.

Before troubleshooting, ensure your domain has been added to QuipForm and the required DNS records have been configured with your domain provider.

Domain Verification Failed

If QuipForm cannot verify your domain, check the following:

Verify DNS Records

Ensure:

  • The DNS record type matches the one shown in QuipForm.
  • The hostname is entered correctly.
  • The target value matches exactly.
  • There are no typos or extra spaces.

Even a small mismatch can prevent verification.

Wait for DNS Propagation

DNS changes are not always instant.

Depending on your DNS provider, updates may take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours to propagate worldwide.

If you recently updated your DNS records, wait a little longer before making additional changes.

Domain Shows "Pending Verification"

If your domain remains in a pending state:

  • Confirm DNS records have been saved.
  • Verify records are active with your DNS provider.
  • Allow time for propagation.
  • Retry verification from the Custom Domains page.

In most cases, pending domains resolve automatically once DNS updates are detected.

SSL Certificate Is Still Provisioning

SSL certificates are issued automatically after successful domain verification.

If SSL remains pending:

  • Verify the domain has been successfully verified.
  • Confirm DNS records have not been modified.
  • Wait for provisioning to complete.

SSL provisioning usually begins after domain verification is complete.

Custom Domain Loads an Error Page

If visitors see an error when opening your custom domain:

Check:

  • Domain verification status
  • SSL certificate status
  • DNS configuration
  • Whether the domain is connected to the correct form or workspace

If the domain was recently configured, allow additional time for updates to propagate.

HTTPS Is Not Working

If your form loads over HTTP or shows browser security warnings:

  • Confirm SSL provisioning has completed.
  • Verify your domain status is active.
  • Ensure DNS records have not been changed after setup.

Modern browsers may cache old SSL information, so refreshing the page or trying another browser can help.

Domain Redirects to the Wrong Location

If your domain opens an unexpected page:

  • Review your DNS records.
  • Remove conflicting records that use the same hostname.
  • Verify the correct domain is connected inside QuipForm.

Conflicting DNS entries are one of the most common causes of incorrect routing.

DNS Changes Are Not Being Detected

If QuipForm cannot detect your DNS changes:

Double-Check Record Values

Compare the DNS values shown in QuipForm with the records configured at your DNS provider.

Remove Conflicting Records

A hostname should not contain multiple conflicting records that point to different destinations.

Wait for Propagation

DNS providers may take time to publish updates globally.

Forms Are Not Loading on the Custom Domain

Verify:

  • The form is published.
  • The custom domain is active.
  • SSL provisioning is complete.
  • DNS verification has succeeded.

If all settings appear correct, allow additional time for DNS updates to finish propagating.

Domain Previously Worked but Stopped Working

If a custom domain suddenly stops working:

Check whether:

  • DNS records were modified.
  • The domain expired.
  • The domain was disconnected from QuipForm.
  • DNS provider settings changed recently.

Changing or removing DNS records after setup may cause domain verification and SSL certificates to fail.

Best Practices

To avoid common issues:

  • Use the exact DNS values provided by QuipForm.
  • Avoid modifying DNS records after verification.
  • Use a dedicated subdomain for forms.
  • Allow time for DNS propagation before troubleshooting.
  • Verify SSL status before launching public campaigns.

Still Need Help?

Before contacting support, gather the following information:

  • Custom domain name
  • Domain provider
  • Current verification status
  • Screenshots of DNS records
  • Any error messages displayed

Providing these details helps speed up troubleshooting and resolution.

Most custom domain issues can be resolved by verifying DNS records and allowing sufficient time for DNS propagation and SSL provisioning.
