custom domains

DNS Configuration

To use a custom domain with QuipForm, you'll need to update your DNS settings with your domain provider.

DNS records connect your domain to QuipForm's infrastructure, allowing visitors to access your forms using your own branded URL.

For example:

  • forms.yourcompany.com
  • apply.yourcompany.com
  • survey.yourcompany.com

instead of a QuipForm URL.

Custom Domains are available on supported paid plans.

Before You Begin

Make sure you have:

  • An active custom domain or subdomain
  • Access to your domain provider's DNS settings
  • A custom domain added in QuipForm

Common DNS providers include:

  • Cloudflare
  • GoDaddy
  • Namecheap
  • Squarespace Domains
  • Porkbun
  • Google Domains (supported providers)

Step 1: Add Your Domain in QuipForm

  1. Open your QuipForm dashboard.
  2. Navigate to Settings → Custom Domains.
  3. Click Add Domain.
  4. Enter your desired domain or subdomain.
  5. Save the configuration.

QuipForm will generate the DNS records required for verification.

Example:

forms.yourcompany.com

Step 2: Open Your DNS Provider

Log in to the company where your domain is managed.

Open the DNS management area for your domain.

The location may be labeled:

  • DNS Management
  • DNS Records
  • Zone Editor
  • Advanced DNS

Step 3: Add the Required DNS Record

QuipForm will display the exact DNS record required for your domain.

In most cases, you'll add a CNAME record.

Example:

| Type | Name | Value | | ----- | ----- | ------------------ | | CNAME | forms | cname.quipform.com |

Always use the DNS values shown inside your QuipForm dashboard. The values displayed above are examples only.

Step 4: Save Your Changes

After creating the DNS record:

  1. Save the changes with your DNS provider.
  2. Return to QuipForm.
  3. Click Verify Domain.

QuipForm will check your DNS configuration automatically.

DNS Propagation

DNS changes are not always immediate.

Most domains verify within a few minutes, but propagation can sometimes take up to 48 hours depending on your DNS provider.

During this period:

  • The domain may not verify immediately.
  • Some visitors may still see the old configuration.
  • SSL certificates may still be provisioning.

Most custom domains become active within a few minutes, even though full DNS propagation can take longer.

SSL Certificates

Once your DNS records are verified, QuipForm automatically provisions and renews SSL certificates for your domain.

This enables secure HTTPS access without additional configuration.

Example:

https://forms.yourcompany.com

No manual SSL setup is required.

Common DNS Providers

Cloudflare

When using Cloudflare:

  • Add the DNS record provided by QuipForm.
  • Ensure the record matches exactly.
  • Wait for verification before making additional changes.

GoDaddy

After adding the DNS record:

  • Save changes.
  • Allow time for propagation.
  • Return to QuipForm to verify ownership.

Namecheap

Create the required DNS record and wait for DNS updates to propagate before verifying.

Troubleshooting

Domain Verification Failed

Verify:

  • The DNS record type is correct.
  • The hostname matches exactly.
  • The target value matches the value provided by QuipForm.
  • DNS changes have fully propagated.

SSL Certificate Is Still Pending

SSL certificates are generated after domain verification.

Wait a few minutes and refresh the Custom Domains page.

My Domain Doesn't Load

Check:

  • DNS records are correctly configured.
  • The domain has been verified successfully.
  • SSL provisioning has completed.
  • There are no conflicting DNS records.

I Updated DNS but Nothing Changed

DNS propagation can take time.

Wait and retry verification later if the changes were made recently.

Avoid deleting or modifying DNS records after verification, as this may cause your custom domain to stop working.

Best Practices

  • Use a dedicated subdomain for forms.
  • Keep DNS records unchanged after verification.
  • Verify DNS settings before launching a form publicly.
  • Allow time for propagation before troubleshooting.
  • Test your domain after SSL provisioning completes.

Next Steps

  • Learn how to set up a Custom Domain.
  • Configure your form branding and appearance.
  • Publish forms using your branded domain.

Once DNS verification is complete, visitors can access your forms through your own branded domain with automatic HTTPS security.
