Version History
Version History allows you to track changes made to your forms over time and restore previous versions when needed.
Whether you're updating questions, adjusting logic, redesigning a form, or collaborating with a team, Version History provides a safety net so you can confidently make changes without worrying about losing previous work.
Version History is available on paid plans and automatically saves changes made to your forms.
How Version History Works
Every time significant changes are made to a form, QuipForm stores a snapshot of that version.
This allows you to:
- Review previous versions of a form
- See when changes were made
- Identify who made a change (for shared workspaces)
- Restore an earlier version if needed
- Recover from accidental edits
Version History does not affect existing submissions. Restoring a previous version only changes the form structure and settings moving forward.
Viewing Form History
To access a form's version history:
- Open the form you want to review.
- Click Settings.
- Select Version History.
- Browse the available versions.
Each version includes:
- Date and time of the change
- Version identifier
- Change summary (when available)
- Author information for collaborative workspaces
Previewing a Previous Version
Before restoring a version, you can preview it to understand what changed.
Previewing allows you to:
- Review questions and content
- Check form settings
- Verify logic and branching rules
- Compare with the current version
Previewing a version before restoring helps avoid accidentally replacing newer updates.
Restoring a Previous Version
If you need to revert changes:
- Open Version History.
- Select the version you want to restore.
- Review the version details.
- Click Restore Version.
- Confirm the action.
The selected version becomes the current active version of the form.
What Gets Restored
Restoring a version may include:
- Questions and fields
- Form content
- Page structure
- Logic rules
- Form settings
- Design and customization settings
Existing submissions remain unchanged and are never removed when restoring a version.
Restoring a form version does not delete your collected responses.
Common Use Cases
Recovering Accidentally Deleted Questions
If a question was removed by mistake, restore a previous version to bring it back.
Undoing Large Changes
When a redesign doesn't work as expected, you can quickly return to an earlier version.
Reviewing Team Edits
Shared workspaces can use Version History to understand changes made by collaborators.
Testing New Form Structures
Experiment with new layouts, logic, and content knowing you can always roll back if necessary.
Best Practices
- Review changes before publishing major updates
- Use clear naming conventions for forms
- Test complex logic after restoring a version
- Keep collaborators informed about major restorations
- Preview historical versions before reverting
Troubleshooting
I Can't Find an Older Version
Only saved versions are available in Version History. If a change was made recently, wait a few moments and refresh the page.
My Submissions Are Missing
Restoring a version does not remove submissions. If responses appear missing, check your submission filters and date ranges.
Logic Isn't Working After Restore
Review conditional logic and calculated fields after restoring a version to ensure they match your intended workflow.
Plan Limits
The amount of available version history depends on your plan.
- Pro: 30-day version history
- Agency: 90-day Extended version history
Upgrading your plan unlocks access to longer version retention and advanced collaboration features.
